Letter to members of the Hebrew University community - Campus entry August 31 2021

1 September, 2021

Dear members of the Hebrew University community,

All of us, the University’s staff and students, are continuing to prepare for the start of the 2021/2022 academic year. Thank you all for acting responsibly. This is an update regarding the need to receive the COVID-19 booster dose (the third COVID-19 vaccine shot).

Admission to the campuses of the Hebrew University continues to be permitted only to those who have a "green pass" (or who present a negative COVID-19 test conducted up to 48 hours before the date of entry to campus). We expect that this requirement will also be in effect at the beginning of the school year, on October 10, 2021. Based on to the Ministry of Health guidelines, all members of the University community are expected to be vaccinated with a third COVID-19 vaccine shot (the booster dose), no later than six months after the second vaccination or recovery from COVID. According to the findings of the medical research and the recommendations issued by the Hebrew University’s team of experts, the protection provided by the vaccine decreases significantly after six months, and the booster dose is required to return the protection from infection and infecting others to the very high level attained shortly after receiving the second COVID vaccine shot. According to the government decision, as of October 1, 2021, the validity of the green pass, and therefore also the possibility to enter the HUJI campuses, are expected to be conditional on receiving a booster dose no later than six months after the date of the second vaccine shot.

During the 2021/2022 academic year, work and study at the Hebrew University will take place only on campus (to the extent that this is possible from a public health point of view). Apart from a few courses that will be conducted remotely (and are noted as such in the University course book), it will not be possible to attend classes remotely, and will have to watch the recorded lessons videos (in courses in which the lesson videos will be available).

Responsible behavior on the part of us all will allow us to return to a pleasurable and exciting study and work routine. We wish you and your loved ones good health.

Yours,

Prof. Asher Cohen, President

Prof. Barak Medina, Rector

Mr. Yishai Fraenkel, Vice-President and Director General
