Postponement of the Opening of the Academic Year to November 5th, 2023

12 October, 2023

Dear community members of The Hebrew University,

Due to the current situation, The Hebrew University together with the other research universities, have jointly decided to postpone the opening of the academic year to November 5th, 2023.

Following this change in schedule, we are now designing the structure of the academic year. We will send a full update once we have completed planning the new year.

In the meantime, we are initiating and coordinating volunteer opportunities to support communities and the State. The aim of this project is to assist all those who are interested in volunteering but have yet to find a suitable channel. On Sunday we will launch a site presenting all of these opportunities. Further information will be distributed on Sunday.

Once again we would like to stress: during these days of deep sorrow and grief, of excruciating concern for the fate of the those kidnapped, missing and who have been taken captive, we would like to promise each and every one of you – those who have been drafted for reserve duty or those who have suffered injuries either personally or in their wider circle, we will do everything, emphasis on “everything”, to assist you on a personal level to fit into your program.

The university will ensure that all those serving in reserve duty, who are out defending our lives, will be able to successfully complete their studies, despite their absence due to service. Return safely.

Together we will overcome all threats and difficulties.

Yours,

Tamir Sheafer
