Dear members of the academic and administrative staff and students,

The Senate of the Hebrew University convened yesterday (Wednesday) for a special meeting on preserving the independence of the judiciary sector. This special discussion was scheduled following a request from at least 20 members of the Senate.

After the discussion, members of the Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of the attached statement.

The president of the University, Asher Cohen, and I, stated in the discussion, and we repeat it here, that University management will assist as much as possible from an infrastructural point of view organized actions of faculty members, whose purpose is to bring to light their relevant professional expertise in issues related to the proposed legislative changes in the legal arena. The purpose of these actions should be to enrich the diverse public debate on this issue.
