Arrangements for Teaching Accommodations for Faculty Members Due to the War

Arrangements for Teaching Accommodations for Faculty Members Serving in the Reserves.

These arrangements apply to senior faculty members on all tracks.

 

1.      Faculty members serving in the reserves during the semester or part of it will not teach their courses in that semester, and the units will secure replacements for their teaching.

2.      Faculty members who have served in the reserves for 50 days or more since October 8, 2023 will be entitled to a reduction in their teaching load of 2 credits in the first or second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, in addition to the abovesaid in section 1.

3.      Faculty members who have served in the reserves for at least 50 days will be entitled to an extension of their trial period by six months, if they so choose.

Arrangements for teaching accommodations for faculty members whose first-degree relatives have been injured in the war, necessitating the faculty members’ availability (hereinafter - affected faculty members). The arrangements apply to senior faculty members on all tracks.

Recognition of status

1.      Recognition of faculty members as being affected will be approved by the Rector.

2.      To receive approval, a faculty member or a person on his/her behalf will apply to the Dean, who will forward the request to the Rector.

At the time of the injury

3.      During the period in which affected faculty members are occupied with caring intensively for injured family members, they will not engage in teaching and related tasks, including tasks related to exam preparation and testing and guiding the teaching staff in the courses they teach, and including tasks that are performed remotely.

4.      During this period, affected faculty members will not hold academic administration positions, including membership in University committees, even if the tasks can be performed remotely.

In the period after the injury

5.      Affected faculty members who were on sabbatical leave or “exemption from teaching leave” during the first semester, will be exempt from teaching in the second semester of the 2023-24 academic year or in the first semester of 2024-2025, according to their choice.

6.      Faculty members who do not teach in the first semester due to the injury to a family member will receive an additional reduction in teaching load of 2 credits in the second semester of the 2023-24 academic year or in the one after that, according to their choice.

Extension of trial period

7.      Affected faculty members will be entitled to an extension of their trial period by one year, if they so choose.

Faculty members entitled to accommodations who wish to teach

1.      Lecturers who are interested in teaching purely on their own initiative, despite reserve duty or being affected, may of course do so.

2.      Lecturers who taught during or immediately after reserve duty or at the time of being affected will receive an additional reduction in the following semester (the scope of the course(s) taught + 2 credits).

Arrangements for teaching accommodations for junior faculty members serving in the reserves

  1. Members of the junior faculty serving in the reserves will receive their full salary in accordance with their appointment, and replacements must be found for them. For the time they spend in the reserves, the units will receive compensation.
  2. If members of the junior faculty are released from reserve duty during the semester, their services may be used for reinforcement activities, and the resultant additional cost financed through the budget provided for reinforcement activities
