A call for restraint in the events of the coming week

11 May, 2025

To all members of the Hebrew University community,

The ongoing war and the timing of calendar events make this period especially challenging for students, academic staff, and administrative staff alike. The upcoming week, during which the Arab-Palestinian community marks the Nakba, is particularly sensitive. Therefore, we find it important to remind everyone how delicate the shared fabric of respectful relations within our community is.

The University leadership has met with heads of student organizations, representatives of the student union, and faculty representatives to stress the importance of maintaining the dignity and rights of all members of our community during this time. The "Guidelines for Expressing Opinions and Ideas in the Hebrew University Community" regarding speech during protest activities on campus are available on the Diversity Unit’s website.

We would like to emphasize here the principle of responsible conduct, which alone can help us maintain respectful relations during this time: The Hebrew University is committed to freedom of expression and critical discourse, but also stresses the responsibility of every member of the community to carefully consider their words and the impact they may have on others.

To preserve the integrity of the Hebrew University community, please be sure to follow the guidelines for expressing opinions.
