Notice of Postponement of the Academic Year - Faculty

8 October, 2023

Friends and members of the university community,

The State of Israel has been under attack since yesterday morning. Our hearts go out to the families of those murdered. We send wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured and are full of hope that all the abducted, captured, and missing people will return soon. We strengthen the hands of all those who work night and day to restore security, peace, and routine to the State of Israel.

Many students and faculty members were drafted into reserve service, and we offer a prayer that each and every one of them will return safely soon.

After a discussion and assessment of the situation, the Hebrew University, in cooperation with the other research universities in Israel, decided to postpone the start of the academic year by a week.

The academic year will start on Sunday, October 22, 2023. The first semester will end on the scheduled date. This means that the first semester will be shortened by a week. Apart from this, the academic calendar will proceed as planned (holidays, exam dates, etc.).

The preparation for the academic year, including the orientation sessions, will take place next week, in coordination with the Student Union,  the secretariats and under the Head of the Marketing and Communication Division.

A notice regarding the postponement of the start of the academic year and the postponement of the orientation day was sent to all students.

We know that the coming period will be full of more difficult challenges than usual. The university management appreciates the efforts you invest and your contribution to the students’ welfare and their academic work.

When necessary, you can contact the psychological service via the email psyserv@mail.huji.ac.il.

Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Sincerely,

Tamir Sheafer
