Position of the President, Rector, and Head of the Senior Academic Staff Organization of the Hebrew University in Light of the Risk of a Constitutional Crisis
- We, the President, Rector, and Head of the Senior Academic Staff Organization, hereby declare that if the government acts contrary to the decisions and rulings of the Supreme Court, we will shut down the University.
- Failure to comply with the rulings of the Supreme Court is nothing less than an existential threat to the State of Israel.
- In any well-functioning democratic country, complying with the rulings of the courts, with the Supreme Court at their head, is the duty of every citizen, and all the more so for public servants and elected officials, including the government and its leader.
- It is expected that the government and its leader will publicly declare their intention to comply with the rulings of the Supreme Court and act accordingly.
- We call on members of the academic staff to continue teaching at this time. As stated in Section 1, we will shut down the University if and when the government acts contrary to the decisions and rulings of the Supreme Court. Until then, participation in protest activities is allowed, in accordance with the University’s policy of inclusion.
