Dear Colleagues,
Three short messages: First, heartfelt congratulations to our colleagues who received the E.M.E.T Prize: Ruth Lapidoth from the Faculty of Law and the Department of International Relations; Hermona (Mona) Soreq from the Faculty of Science, the Silberman Institute for Life Sciences, and the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences; Gideon (Gidi) Shelach Lavi from the Faculty of Humanities, Department of Asian Studies. Three of the six awardees this year are from the Hebrew University community.
Secondly, on March 9th at 18:00 in the Liwerant-Mexico Hall on Mt. Scopus, we will hold this year’s Rector’s Prize ceremony. Alongside the 79 excellent Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees students, there are prizes for excellence for Academic faculty members. The Rector’s Prize for Academic staff who excelled in research, teaching and public activities will be awarded to the following: Inbal Goshen, ELSC; Yishai Yafeh, School for Business Administration; Liran Carmel, The Institute of Life Sciences, The Faculty of Science; Orna Kupferman, School of Computer Sciences and Engineering; and Arie Kacowicz, The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences. The Milken Prize for continued excellence in teaching will be awarded this year to: Nora Boneh, the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities; Doron Teichman, Faculty of Law; Dr. Hadar Arien-Zakay, School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine; Yehuda Neumark, Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine; and Noa Nitzan, School of Business Administration and the Institute of Mathematics, Faculty of Science. A special Prize of Recognition is awarded to Tamar El Or from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences on founding the Anthropological Film Festival; and a Prize of Excellence in Internationalization to the Faculty of Dental Medicine International Programs.
Finally, the University is working to help students and faculty members from Ukraine. Aside from economic and psychological help that we are offering to about 30 students from Ukraine who are learning at HUJI, we are working to help faculty members and research students in Ukrainian universities. Hebrew University Emergency Aid for Researchers and Students from Ukraine
Considering the threat on the lives or academics in Ukraine, and in a show of solidarity, the Hebrew University is offering academic hosting for Ukrainian academic staff and students of higher degrees.
Ukrainian academic faculty members, residents of Ukraine, who serve in academic institutions in Ukraine, are invited to continue their research activity within the framework of the Hebrew University (HUJI). The invitation is to stay at the University for a period of up to four months, during which time the University will provide scholarships for suitable guests in the amount of between $2,500/month for individuals and $2,800/month for families, as well as free accommodation in the University’s dormitories for the four-month period. Guests who require a lab to conduct their research will be hosted in the labs of HUJI researchers, in coordination with the Head of the Lab. The Head of the Lab is encouraged to provide a scholarship from his/her research budget, however, hosting is not dependent on providing funding for the guest.
Master and PhD Students, residents of Ukraine, who are studying in academic institutions in Ukraine, are invited to continue their academic research at HUJI. The invitation is to stay at the University for a period of up to four months during which time we will offer suitable candidates scholarships in the amount of $2,000/month and free accommodation in the University dormitories during the four-month period. Guest students who require a lab to conduct their research will be hosted by HUJI researchers in coordination with the Head of the Lab. The Head of the Lab can provide a scholarship from his/her research budget, however, hosting is not dependent on providing funding for the guest.
Ukrainian undergraduate students are also invited to attend courses at the HUJI Rothberg School for International Students, and scholarships and accommodations will be offered to suitable candidates.
